September Membership Meeting September 2nd, 2025 – Sara Schira
Kick off the new Guild Year with Sara Schira’s delightful and playful presentation on how you can get your knitting mojo back or bring some levity to your crafting era!

Knitting With Whimsy explores the importance of play in adulthood and learning just how varied play can look in knitting. Sarah Schira is known for her gnome designs but will talk about the many ways that we can explore joyfulness in our craft.
No homework is required.
Sarah Schira is a knitting designer who loves making knitting patterns for everyday adventures. She and her family live in Manitoba, Canada, on Treaty 2 lands, where they’ve raised their two kids to adulthood but still have the shenanigans of two cats to contend with. These two fiendish charmers mean that her gnomes live protected lives in glass cabinets. She has – at last count – over 180 gnomes.
The origins of her love for gnomes are unclear, but things really kicked off when she found a pattern for knitting her own rather than waiting to find one at craft sales. She knit that first one in 2013 and kept knitting “just one more”.
Sarah’s eyes are drawn to the textures and lines of the landscapes – translating them into knitting patterns and the folds of fabric. More than one of her designs is explicitly inspired by something she’s seen and needed to capture on her needles, hence the name Imagined Landscapes.
When Sarah’s not knitting gnomes, she’s working on knitting accessories and sweaters to stay warm, filming knitting tutorials for her YouTube channel, and planning cycling and hiking trips.
